It’s Been a While

Hi there. The year now is 2026, nearly two years since I wrote my last post. Time flies. I want to write more regularly here, so here I am.

We are under contract for land in Maine.

I am beyond excited. Nearly 30 acres of wooded land. It has power and a trailer. The goal is to move this June, and I’m so ready for it.

I will start a YouTube channel then to document our journey to Maine and the start of our build.

We are starting with a small cabin. A place to live in while we build the bigger house. And afterward, it’s possible that we may build a second cabin if my son decides to come with us.

I am ready. I am wanting. I needed this.

It’s been a really rough year, to be honest. I’ve been diagnosed with medication resistant depression, meaning my depression medication isn’t working. I had sort of a mental break down this year. Taking time off work to go to an intensive outpatient program and to go through another round of TMS. It did not help.

In addition, both of my grandparents died this year, within 6 months of each other. This was really hard for me. Even though in their later years they had become bitter, angry, radicalized people, they were still special to me. My whole childhood they made it a point to come out here to Utah every summer just to spend time with us. It made an impact on us. And I will forever be grateful for the time that I had with them. Losing them was hard. Pop had so many medical problems, starting last year… we knew that he would pass soon. And Granny, she slowly progressed in her dementia, and died in a memory care facility, with her son by her side.

That was hard. Really hard.

In addition to the above, I turned 40. It seems silly to be affected by a number, but this one definitely did. I felt unsatisfied with my life and the decisions I had made. My entire life, was my life worth it?

And then my son was turning 18. Would he leave us so soon? Would he finish school? How long did I have left with him?

I will admit that this year, I have never felt so close to taking my own life. That’s how low I was.

But. I got more help. I dug myself deeper into therapy and am about to start a Ketamine journey with my psychiatrist. I’ve never done it before, but I know that it will help.

I digress.

The main thing I am focused on right now is that I am almost a landowner of a beautiful piece of property in a small town in Maine. It’s real. It’s almost mine.

So what happens now?

We wait.

We close on our purchase in October and are making plans to move in June 2027. We have so many things to think about, so many things to plan, purchase, make happen. But it’s close.

I would be remiss to not mention my mother. She helped us immensely. With the passing of my grandfather, there was a mix up with his financial inheritance. It went to the grandkids instead of his children. Of course I transferred the money I received to my mother. I was hers, not mine. But she made a deal with us. A 0% interest loan to purchase land, and in return, with the current house’s sale, we would pay her back.

We would not have been able to purchase this land without her. I will forever be grateful to my mother for her kindness and generosity. Thank you Mom <3.

And so:

Cataway Farms has been born.

I can’t wait to share our journey with you.
